Every seventh chord is made up of the 1st, 3rd, 5th and b7th notes of the major scale

The A major scale is

To make an "A seventh" (A7) chord we use 

the 1^st  note A

the 3^rd note C#

the 5^th note E

the b7^th note G  (half step lower from the 7^th)

This gives us the notes A, C#, E and G which form the "A seventh" chord
